My op-ed, “What GoFundMe conceals: The campaigns that fail,” with Erik Schneiderhan, has been published in The Conversation. It draws on findings from my book GoFailMe: The Unfulfilled Promise of Digital Crowdfunding (Stanford University Press) to discuss the unsuccessful campaigns and disappointed users the platform doesn’t advertise, and what this says about for-profit philanthropy in an algorithmic age.
